Frequently Asked Questions
Q: What is the time commitment for All-Stars?
A: All-Stars season is six to seven weeks long. It begins in mid-May and goes through the end of June. There are generally one to two practices a week and then weekend tournaments. It is a substantial time commitment, and you are expected to participate in all the practices and tournaments.
Q: What is the fee, and what does it cover?
A: The fee is estimated to be $175. To ensure commitment, it is due within 48 hours of making the team.
Players will receive two jerseys (Red and Blue), a Belt, a Cooling Towel, and a Visor. They will also receive CPYL team insurance, entry fees to all three tournaments, and guaranteed practice at CPYL time.
Q: What is the additional financial commitment to All-Stars?
A: Additional financial commitments can run up to $100-$150. The Head coach will articulate this in detail once the team has been chosen. Teams are responsible for plate fees at each tournament. There will also be practice uniforms (maybe just a shirt/tank top) and possible equipment needed, i.e., matching helmet, sports bags, etc. CPYL must represent itself with a united team when competing at this level. Donations and sponsorships help alleviate some if not all of these costs. Again, your head coach will speak to this in more detail.
Q: Who can tryout for the All-Star team?
A: Any CPYL softball player currently registered for the spring season can try out. The only thing that will disqualify a player from All-Star is if she has played any select tournament or is on any select rosters since the start of the current spring season.
Q: We have travel plans in June. Is it ok to miss a week?
A: As far as vacations go we would highly discourage it because it would leave the team short players and there are no pick up players during all-stars
Q: Does my player have to try out to be considered for the All-Star team?
A: Yes, every player who wants to be considered for the all-star team must try out.
Q: Will all players make the All-Star team?
A: No, not all players will make the team. I encourage and empower you and your athlete to speak to your head coach and have an honest conversation about where your athlete is at. If they recommend that it would be beneficial for your athlete to try out, please continue to work with your head coach on the logistics and dynamics of trying out. However, a player does not have to be recommended by their head coach to try out; any athlete can try out for the all-star team.
Q: Will play time for my athlete be guaranteed?
A: No, All-Stars is designed so that even though each athlete has earned their way onto the team, they will also have to earn their way on the field. A lot of this comes down to showing up to practice every single time, playing, and contributing as much as possible with a positive attitude. Coaches notice this very much; it is not always about the best athlete.
Q: Who determines which players make the All-Star team?
A: Players will be selected for the All-Star team in a voting process by the head coach of each team in their age division and a third party if needed. Players must receive a vote (yes) from each coach to make the team (e.g., if there are 4 coaches in 8U, a player must receive 4 votes to make the All-Star team).
