As we are all aware our community was deluged with the recent storm and is in the process of recovering. Your CPYL facility was no different and had the potential to be devastated due to its location within the floodplain. Thankfully, we were partially spared and this is due to past and on-going efforts to improve the park.
While the damage was partial, it did have an impact. Earlier today almost 100 people attended a Field Day in order to get the fields back in playing shape. Due to their efforts, we are now in the process of re-opening the fields.
THANK YOU!
On the financial side of the equation, the direct cost of items purchased was approximately $4,000 and the indirect cost of our volunteer’s time exceeds $7,000 bringing the overall damage estimate to $11,000. As you can see our volunteers make a huge difference.
A special thanks again to our volunteers, Terry Ford for loaning the league his bobcat, Home Depot (Cedar Park) for their financial consideration and on-going support, and Proscapes for stepping in to help with the initial clean-up efforts.
On another note, many of you have questioned why CPYL does not recycle. The dominant reasons are logistics and a fear of people not doing their part by placing the right material in the right container (or for that matter placing it in any container at all). After investigating the direct costs of recycling and recognizing that it will have a zero impact to the budget, CPYL will start a trial run through the rest of this year. The logistics are still being worked out, but bottom line we will need your help for it to be successful. We will re-evaluate the program at the end of the year and with your help, it will remain in place.
As always, there is much work to be done at the park and the facility team is busy planning projects to continue to enhance the park for the years to come.
We look forward to seeing you at the park. Should you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact me.
