The 2010 Fall Baseball/Softball season is under way and the registration numbers are in. I am proud to say that CPYL set a fall registration record with over 920 kids. Our board of directors had the foresight over the last five years to expand the park in anticipation of the growth we are now experiencing. These are definitely exciting times for CPYL and as your president I can tell you that our board of directors is more committed than ever to serving our members and community by ensuring our kids have a place to play baseball and softball for many years to come.
Our Mission: “To support our local community in providing a facility for organized baseball and softball to play, learn and grow in an environment that is safe for our kids, parents and coaches.” This mission says it all, we are here to provide a softball and baseball environment that is safe for everyone at our park!
Providing a safe environment begins with the coaches/team parent certification program at CPYL. I want to thank all of the volunteer coaches and team parents for attending the training sessions and renewing your pledge to uphold our values, teach our kids and to dedicate your time for the betterment of the league. This season we went to a colored sticker program so that we will not have to re-issue badges every year. In order to access the field you must have a badge visible to all for regular season games. If you do not have your badge a BMOD member will ask you to leave the field so please do not forget to bring your badge to the games. Please do not lose your badge or there will be a fee to replace it. I attended the certification training on Wednesday, 8/25 and it was extremely crowded and not as well organized as we all would have liked; the board is reviewing how to do it better in the spring. The good news is that certifications are for one year so you will not have to attend in the spring sessions. Thanks for your patience.
What does being certified mean...? The CPYL Board of Directors considers certified coaches an extension of the board always working to ensure that everyone is provided an environment that is safe for our kids to play softball and baseball. One of the requirements of a certified coach is to obey and help enforce the No Tolerance Policy (NTP). If you have not done so already please read the entire No Tolerance Policy (NTP) posted on our website to understand what is expected of you as a coach, parent and volunteer. It is your responsibility to fully understand what is expected of you, your child and other family members when you are at the ballpark. During 2010 we have issued over 15 game suspensions and a one year manager suspension for violations related to our NTP. Our goal as an organization is to issue zero (0) suspensions and we can do that with continued education and your help. As parents we must remember that we teach our children life lessons through our actions so let’s set a great example for our kids and make the season enjoyable for all involved.
I talk with a lot of people around the park and it is surprising to me how our membership is not informed on how we operate this league. I get people saying to me, “How can I get involved”…? “How did we pay for all of these improvements”…? “Do we train our umpires”? How can I become a board member? So, I have decided to reserve a section in my letter every month to answer any questions you may have about our league. If you have a topic that you would like to know more about please send me an email through our website Contact Us page .
