Presidents Letter - March 2011

CPYL Nation,

We are well into the 2011 Spring season with the Pre-Season Tournament behind us we look forward to the regular season and some great softball and baseball.  Below are some topics of interest surrounding the league:

With the overwhelming participation in the Pre-Season Tournament we have decided to add a tournament this spring.  We plan to have National League & American League age groups play in the April OR May tournament.  For example, the 12U National League will play in the April Tournament and the 12U American League will play in the May tournament…  More details to come so keep an eye out on the website.

Our final registration numbers totaled 1400 players which brought in record revenue of $216,000 and as you all have experienced [parking issues] we are nearing capacity and may have to cap registration next spring.  If any Leander residents have influence on Leander city officials I would encourage you to make your voice heard requesting their plans to build baseball fields in Leander in the next 1-3 years.

We have had some concerns and questions regarding bat restrictions at CPYL.  From our research and discussion with local leagues and select tournament organizations we have found that there are no official restrictions on any bat at any age division for the 2011 season and CPYL will follow suit until which time a standard has been adopted and enforced by the local youth sports sanctioning bodies.  We are seeing signs that there will be a bat standard for 2012 and our baseball committee will continue to monitor developments in this area.

This month we completed the fencing around Camden Yards, The Diamond and Little Field at a cost of $70,000.  Thanks to your participation in our annual fundraisers we were able to complete this much needed improvement to the park.  In the next two years we will replace the fencing at Ebett’s, Wrigley, Fenway and Sandlot fields.  Speaking of fundraisers our two biggest fundraisers of the year are quickly approaching and we look forward to seeing you.
