Presidents Letter - August 2010

Home - League Wide

Greetings CPYL Nation, my name is Dan Fiala and I am looking forward to representing CPYL as your president for the next year.   I would like to take a few minutes to discuss my background and then talk with you about our plan for the league in 2010...

I have been a member of the CPYL board of directors since 2005 when I was elected president.  At that time we had no credible budget and $15,000 in the bank.  During my two year term the board cut back on spending,  while driving membership, establishing strict budgets and promoting fundraising events increasing our savings and ensuring the survival of our community ball park.

In 2007 I volunteered my services to work with the City of Cedar Park to secure $1.8M of funding to drive the park expansion and improvements you have seen over the past 2 years.  We are about 95% complete with the contract which includes:

  • Construction of two new baseball fields and 5 batting cages
  • Replacement of lighting and light poles in the entire park
  • Installation of a new irrigation system in the entire park
  • Remodeling the existing concession stand bathrooms
  • Installation of a handicap ramp at the existing concession stand
  • Construction of a brand new Multi-Purpose building including a maintenance garage, board room, concession stand and restrooms

Where do we go from here…

Over the course of the next 12 months your board of directors will work to make CPYL even better than it is today.  In doing this we are committed to the following:

  • Continuing our fiscal responsibility by setting and managing strict budgets
  • Continuing our efforts to improving our fields
  • Growing our softball and baseball membership to its highest levels ever
  • Strictly enforcing our No Tolerance Policy creating an enjoyable environment for our members
  • Using the coaches evaluation forms we received from you to make informed decisions on selecting managers and coaches

We will plan to spend a set amount of our savings for continued long term improvements to the park.  For example:

  • Chain link fencing needs to be repaired and replaced on many of our fields
  • Implement an infield and outfield top dressing maintenance program to improve field conditions
  • Investigate expanding the dugouts on some of the older fields
  • Upgrade our maintenance equipment as needed
  • Improving our fundraising and sponsorship in a continuing effort to provide a great product for the membership

These are exciting times for CPYL and we will continue to take this league to new levels by promoting growth in numbers and making our park the best place to play in Central Texas.

Good luck to all and we will see you at the ballpark.

Sincerely,
Dan Fiala
President CPYL
