Changes in Bat Rules starting Spring 2012...Please Read!
All bats in all age divisions may not exceed 34 inches in length, and 2 ¾ inches (or less) in barrel diameter
Prohibited Bats:
All bats labeled “for T-ball only” may only be used within the 6U T-Ball competition
All bats labeled “Coach Pitch” may only be used within 7U and 8U Coach Pitch competition
All bats labeled “Not for use with real baseball” are prohibited from play at CPYL
All bats sold or produced by non-licensed bat manufacturing individuals or companies are prohibited
CPYL may prohibit or ban any bats at any time during the season which are identified to be non-compliant with our rules
Any bat that is altered in any manner is prohibited from play
Bat Performance Standards:
CPYL will ONLY allow aluminum and composite bats which bear the “BPF 1.15” or “BBCOR” manufacturer’s branding, label, or stamp in ages 12U and under. Wood bats may also be used
T-Ball:
The bat must be either labeled “T-Ball” or meet the “1.15 BPF” standard
13/14U competition:
Only aluminum or composite bats bearing “BPF 1.15” or “BBCR” manufacturer’s branding, label, or stamp with a MAXIMUM drop of 8.5 may be used. It is recommended that a -5 or heavier be used. Wood bats may also be used
15U-18U competition:
All bats must be in compliance with the 2012 National Federation of High Schools rules
Penalties for use of illegal bats:
The batter is immediately out. If a batter reaches base using an illegal bat, the batter is out and all existing base runners return to their original bases. If this is the 3rd out of the inning, the side is retired. The bat in question MUST be removed from the field. If the bat is used by the same team in another game the above rule applies and the Manager of the team will be ejected and serve a minimum of a one game suspension.
Spring 2012:
If a player has a bat that has the same manufacturers part number as a “legal” bat, the parent may contact the bat manufacturer and request a letter (on the companies letterhead) stating that the bat is “1.15 BPF”. It must be the original letter, not a copy. The letter must be present at all games as the bat may be questioned by the Manager and/or Umpire.
CPYL uses Super Series Baseball of America as the guide to our bat rules.
